We Pacific Northwesterners need to take heed! I just bought several gallons of water and am going to continue to do that each trip to the store, because if Cascadia happens, it could be WEEKS before we have access to clean water. We need to have non perishables, water, and if you have pets, keep your pantries stocked with their food too!

I was at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Ms in August 1969, during Hurricane Camille, a slow moving Category 5 storm, with sustained winds measured at well over 200 MPH, making this one of the most powerful hurricanes ever to hit the United States. Many deaths and devastation, from the 24 foot storm surge, causing most of the loss of life and destruction that looked like the area had been carpet bombed. We were in three story steel, reinforced billets. The first floor occupants had to move up to the second and third floors due to severe flooding on the ground level. We pulled the mattresses off our bunks, closing the doors to our rooms, placing them in the center hallway, because all of the glass in the windows was being shattered by airborne debris. Following the storm, high humidity, no power, no safe water, fallen trees, power lines and buildings severely damaged and filled with mud. Also snakes and other creatures from Biloxi's back bay, posed real problems. Pray for those, who are caught in this Pacific storm.

The big quakes are expected, we prepare since childhood for what to do, most people have a plan and at least basic emergency supplies, camping gear etc. Since the Christchurch quakes many of the older buildings in NZ have already been condemned, replaced or strengthened and our building codes are stronger. There is no point being fearful, we just get on with life and will deal with a big quake if and when it happens.

The best earthquake forecaster is Dutchsinse. He not as active on YouTube he as he once was but he still puts stuff out and does twitch regularly. Using a system he came up with, he regularly forecast earthquakes down to 1 magnitude and 200 miles. He talks a lot about low frequency, standing waves, antipodes, and solar storms as well. Very impressive and informative

Spot on analysis. The distinction between extensional tectonic stress at the spreading center and compressional stress at the Cascadia subduction zone is crucial here. For those watching the swarm, it’s worth noting that the nearby Axial Seamount has a well-documented cycle of inflating and deflating, having previously erupted in 1998, 2011, and 2015. While this current swarm is about 100 miles south of Axial, it provides fantastic data on how the entire Juan de Fuca plate boundary is accommodating that extensional strain. Nevada is home to quite a few D.U.M.B.s and underground tunnels. I wouldn't discount those as a factor.

If there is a new underwater volcano it will be good for the salmon. The ash is fertilizer for the food chain that eventually feeds the salmon.

The irony is I was listening to various horror stories, and this came up in the mix. And it is legitimately the more frightening than monsters and eldritch abominations. One commnet, there has been an increase in solar storms over the past months, and hurricanes are a way to consume excess energy in the oceans, to the strength of the typhoon as tell as the continental weather may be linked to the solar activity.

Both of those were strong, but this on today was lasted longer than any I have experienced. Lasted around a 90 seconds or longer. It was a rocker and a roller and thought the Stillwater Fault, which has a history of large quakes. 1954 was the last series and they were 7.1+ magnitude. Its extremely rural so damage is minimal. In Dixie Valley the valley floor dropped 20 ft in places along a 100 mile fracture. They drop and fracture can be seen along the base of the East side of Stillwater range for 30 miles.

I'm from Hawkes bay here in NZ, they been talking about the Hikurangi subduction zone for years, apparently it will generate a 9m tsunami and same with the southern alps apparently they are due to pop any time but can't be worried about it, if it happens it happens. We more worried about the 140km winds and 8m seas ripping through us this Sunday.

My husband received an earthquake warning on his iPhone. We're in the Sacramento area.

I live in Walker CA and got a warning that an earthquake was coming a few seconds later it rocked us pretty good.

I got an alert on my phone right as the quake hit. We live in Lake Tahoe, and it shook our house pretty good.

In 2019, a 5.5 hit near silver springs before the larger 7+ quake in Ridgecrest ca. I hope today’s quake isn’t the one to set off the Garlock fault which may cause a domino effect on the San Andreas fault 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Sadly, a storm like this is right now will leave total devastation. I hate to see this happen to anyone. Hopefully everyone will find a safe place to wait the storm out.

Watching from Harker Heights, Texas and patiently waiting for Saipan airport to open back up again but still no luck on communicating with my little Ranger Buddy June for a brief sitrep. One of my brothers from Guam said they’re okay and two brothers from Rota said it’s pretty bad but our families on Tinian and Saipan are in real bad condition so please I’m asking all of you God Loving folks from all over the world to pray for our Mariana Islands of Guahan, Rota, Tinian, Saipan and I’m not sure if there’s folks on Pagan. I work in the civil sector. Think of this happening on top of the cyclone, then add the approaching critical diesel crisis and not being able to respond to the disaster... NZ is in trouble 💯

I felt the earthquake in South Lake Tahoe CA and it was no joke. I thought it was the 2.5ft of fresh snow sliding off my roof at first. The walls and roof of my house shook bad and made cracking noises as if my house was going to collapse. The sounds I hear when we have an earthquake is mind blowing, I can hear the earth rumbling. It's not just the shaking alone, it's the deep rumbling that's scary and I can hear it coming.

100% it really messes with your mind the first time you are in a big earthquake and you see 6 inch to 1 foot tall "waves" coming down the paved asphalt road towards you. Then you realize it is difficult to remain standing and when you reach for a vehicle to support yourself, you realize everything around you is shaking and moving aroud much worse than you are! *I experienced this during a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Alaska in the early 1990's.* It remains a wonder in my mind!

We live in Fernley. We really felt this one! Chandeliers were swinging and our pan holder was swinging back and forth. The pans were clanging like alarm bells.
