I would like to AI bubble to pop completely but this is also a half decent alternative because then AAA games are going to have to compete with non-ai games and eventually they will most likely go back to handmaking games

I don't want to say what my game idea is right now, but I'm sure I'm gonna be one of these devs making handcrafted games soon. EDIT: Guys, thanks for all the support but don't be in the mindset that it's gonna launch soon, it still needs a good amount of work. And also, it's gonna be a 3d game, not 2d. And I WILL put my best into it because this is a passion project that I refuse to let go of. And I might release 1 or 2 games before it because I will have to think the idea through THOROUGHLY because I don't want to screw up. I deeply care about this project.

Ai being so prevalent has gotten a lot of people to also lean into more things done by hand and I am glad for that. I even do some things my hand more because of Ai. Sheesh it even got me to appreciate things like art done by hand and no computer involved more than I did in the past. I am looking for forward to certain games looking like hand done art and games and content made with Ai. I like variety and Ai has added to that and pushed people to try new things to show better content and it has also inspired people to make many other things based on what they see from Ai.

It seems to me that AIs would make much better CEOs. The cost:benefit ratio on them is totally inefficient too, so let's start with them. ;)

Why not.. the art sector is already seeing it this way, they pride themselves on making their stuff & put things like "No AI in my artworks"

Oh, they got what they needed. They weren't in Monteal to make games. They were in Monreal to gain access to Canadian data and infrastructure. We have a HUGE CCP corruption issue in our government and our businesses. Tencen, being who they are, was in it to corrupt. The job they were hired to do was successful. Now they will act as if it was just one big mismanagement issue

Don't forget the Covid bump for gaming. During Covid, people were trapped inside their houses and had little to do outside of playing games, so a larger than normal amount of players were spending money on games. These games companies saw the Covid money being showered on them, so they responded accordingly and opened tons of games development. Fast forward to the present day, and the Covid money pipeline has been shut off, so all these conpanies that overspent their budgets based off of Covid money figures are now all shutting down these "unnecessary" development teams. Blizzard, Hasbro/Wotc, Riot, etc... This is like a plant that is given super compost, grows fadt during the summer, only for winter to set in and all that exrra growth dies off because it was unsustainable.

Could be money laundering. Could be that Tencent ask for absurdly high spec games, knowing thay cant finish it, and push them to crunch almost in perpetuity, then get the IP and digital assets back to China, to be finished & polished by other company. Could be both. Who knows 😅

Plus with crowdfunding existing compared to how it was in the 90s, hopefully it helps new indie developers explore ways to bring their ideas to life.

This is exciting news for those of us whom are indie developers. This is a great time to get our games finished!

It might open the door for more indie games but it also comes at the cost of a lot of layoffs in industry. As much as we'd like to think that means more hands on deck for indie, the truth is that a lot of these people have families to feed and rent to pay. It's hard to focus on your passions when there's no support built for basic survival. More and more of my friends are facing layoffs and leaving the industry all together.
