Deciding to release a Triple-A live-service hero shooter as your first game as a new “indie” studio is indeed pure hubris.

What still baffles me the most is that they had this total creative freedom, they had good workplace, they had funding and they still ended up making a game that looks like it was designed by marketers and HR, some of the most generic AAA slop imaginable

At this point they oughta change the genre name from Live Service to Doomed Service.

Well it sucks for them but I think it's a great step towards the great life service crash

Nice to see the details in spite of many of us seeing this coming from a few planets away. What sucks is that there's going to be more games that will fall like this one, in high-profile fashion.

They didn't try to make Highguard a fun game, they tried to make it an esport.

If live-service were a restaurant: You pay upfront, but when the food arrives, it's bland and not fully cooked. The waiter tells you the chef will finish cooking it later, so you eat what's edible for now. Meanwhile, the waiters keep telling you to buy food from the salad bar.

My experience with Highguard was: Hear they added 5V5 as a permanent mode -> install game -> game crashes before I even get into the tutorial -> uninstalled.

I don't know what drove Wildlight to tackle such a risky project as their first game. It was do or die, and they died trying.

It's unfortunate how much of this could have been avoided with a playtest or a beta.

Got to check yourself before you wreck yourself. They even had a chance to save themselves if they just had pushed off the release and use that time and picked random players to beta the game. It is fixable even now but you only get one shot at that first impression and no man sky was the exception not the rule.

Tencent has pulled its funding. Wildlight can now be considered an Indie studio.

Tencent being behind this game makes me so happy it failed.

Knowing about Tencent funding this game makes it even more pathetic when that developer said "We don't want to go back to the corporate multiplayer machine". BRO... you are the corporate multiplayer machine!!!
