Richard here). 5'54 is very accurate. It looks like they fired either target rounds or did not set the fuses as a 5'54 would have made a considerable explosion. Just punching 3 5" holes with a 45 lb round passing through the engine room would have serve the purpose of being serious.

Seeing that no impact explosions took place, I think the warship was firing BLP rounds which are used for practice shoots and replace the high explosives in the round with a cement fill. This would still punch holes but not explode.

"Vacate your engine room!" Not a phrase you generally want to hear! I wonder if they vacated it. Pretty amazing to me that they can be that accurate on the sea with a regular gun.

Hard to picture a full tanker "making a break for it" at 17-20 mph top speed. 😅🤣😂🤣

When we unload the cargo, we'll find out it 4000 TEU of Labubu dolls. 😂

Why would they say this to the public on where they taking route on?? ...

During the Napoleonic Wars both France and Great Britain declared a blockade of North Sea ports

That bulletin from Central Command is exactly what a blockade is supposed to look like, right down to the humanitarian considerations. The JAGs did their homework. The SSOs are the prize crews like in the wooden-wall sailing days. The warship would detach a lieutenant or maybe even a particularly industrious senior midshipman, all of16 years old maybe, and some sailors to take the prize to port to "condemn" it in Admiralty Prize Court. The sailors detached from the warship's crew would be replaced by sailors from the prize ship and put to work doing whatever sea tasks they were capable of doing under the watchful eye of the ship's marines. Not much has changed....(except the captain and crew of the capturing warship don't get a share of the value of the ship. Can you imagine what even a tiny slice of a tanker's value would be? More than a galleon carrying gold doubloons. Ah-harrgh, Matey!) If a Chinese-flagged ship dares to try running the blockade, then both sides will see what they are made of. My bet is the Chinese will cough nervously and look down at their shoes until someone changes the subject. Competing blockades as you requested. World War One. The Royal Navy exerted a "blockade at a distance" of the German North Sea coastline with destroyers and cruisers. They didn't blockade close in because of the risk of German torpedo boats sallying out to harass them. ("Destroyers" were originally called "torpedo-boat destroyers.") But the geography made it possible to station blockading ships way out in the Sea near Sweden (and close to home so they could be recalled if needed elsewhere) and still interdict commerce. The blockade was effective enough to inflict significant hunger and malnutrition on the German populace as available food was diverted to the Army. Meanwhile the German Navy was using U-boats to blockade the British Western Approaches. Initially the submarine would surface and order the ship to stop and put the crew into the lifeboats. Then the sub would torpedo it or sink it with gunfire, then slink away submerged before a destroyer showed up. But with improving defences against submarines they went to making submerged attacks without warning. The crew would escape only if they were able to lower the boats in time before their ship sank. This method of unrestricted submarine warfare was prosecuted from the very beginning of the Second World War in 1939. By the Second World War, Germany ran on rails from its continental Third Reich empire, not so much sea commerce. The British didn't devote effort to sea blockade as much as opportunistic patrols with its submarines. Its surface combatants were fully occupied in fleet operations against German (and Italian and Japanese) surface forces and convoy defence against the German sub blockade Version 2.0, which as we know was a very near-run thing. You could argue that the Allied Combined Strategic Bombing Offensive was a type of aerial blockade that competed with the German submarine blockade. The German rail transportation network was a major target, with harbours less so. During the numerous wars between France and England in the 18th century and into the Napoleonic Wars ending 1815, France and England blockaded each other (and England blockaded American ports in the War of 1812.) But the Royal Navy had control of the seas and could sustain its blockade more effectively and durably than the French could. The French fleet stayed bottled up in Marseilles and came out en masse only to give Horatio Nelson the opportunity to inflict his heroic crushing defeats on them (and Spain) ending at Trafalgar. Blockading was immensely demanding logistically, keeping ships victualed and repaired after storm damage, and boring, as merchantmen would only rarely try to run a blockade and offer the chance of a nice prize. Men tended to desert any chance they got, which was why the Royal Navy started stopping American ships in the Atlantic to grab any English-speaking sailor to fill out their crews. Dr. James Lind proved that citrus cured scurvy aboard a blockading ship that had been on station so long in the Mediterranean that the disease broke out among the crew. In the wars between Britain and Holland, both sides must surely have tried to blockade the other but perhaps this was more port-raiding than sustained blockade. The Union Navy blockaded the Confederate ports during the Civil War. The South contested the blockade and raided Union commerce to a limited extent but I don't know if they could be said to have actually blockaded the North. Again, not enough resources to make it stick. All these instances of competing blockades are different from the Strait of Hormuz blockades. Hormuz is the only one I can think of where both sides are blockading the same piece of sea. Maybe that was the point of your question. The objectives are different but the geography is the same place. Indeed the US blockading forces and the Iranian (shore-based) blockading forces may have opportunity to fire on each other. That I think is unique. Other instances where naval forces have fought is over sea control (Trafalgar, Jutland, Midway, Philippine Sea, etc.) not specifically blockade. I learn so much from your channel, Sal. Thanks so much!

The battle of the Atlantic in WW2 was clearly an example of competing blockades. The British maintained an effective blockade of Germany from September 1939, while the Germans went to unrestricted submarine warfare from the outset (although the Kriegsmarine did not immediately target passenger liners, IIRC). At first it was pretty much the RN escorts vs. the U-boats, but this evolved to the RN, RCN, and USN all cooperating to drive the U-boats from the Atlantic by Q3 1943.

disabling engines on a huge ship you then need to tow to port to inspect is some next level thinking, way beyond my pay grade ;)

The 'World Police' protecting the water ways of the world's global trade shipping .. such a Nobel act .. What say they fired a missile back ??? Oh thats right .. you guys are always the 'good guys'

The footage of the US Navy reasonably telling the Iranian ship Touska to stop and then giving them a warning to evacuate the engine room before disabling the ship was priceless. This was a strong flex by the US and great footage for the public.
