I love how every Gorillaz video I completely understand everything happening, yet have no f-cking clue what's going on.

4:35 for anyone curious, i’m pretty sure this bird is supposed to be a eurasian hoopoe! in estonian traditions, they’re associated with death and the underworld. among other cultures, they’re connected with rebirth i’m definitely looking too far into this. i just like birds, haha -> editing just to say that i didn’t pull this from personal knowledge, i went insane one night and did a crap ton of research. i appreciate the comments though ^_^

I know its not, but if this was the last time we ever saw the gang I'd be satisfied, all the callbacks to previous songs and albums, the afterlife symbolism, Noodle saying "I love you" to the boys, Murdoc going into the void kicking and screaming, this somehow feels like such a fitting ending to everything.

Noodle mouthing "I love you" to her older brother (2D) and her guardian (Russel) made me tear up, they are her true found family knowing her lore as an orphan/experiment from S1 and they were the ones who truly looked after her as she grew up. For those who feel bad for Murdoc not being included: She never truly connected with Murdoc in any of the phases, aside from him being her boss and sorta weird, on-off uncle, and I think she still can't forgive him after he put her through literal Hell in season 2 (regardless if he set out to find her or not, every time she is in a mess it's Murdoc's fault) and then the cyborg noodle situation in plastic beach. Don't even get me started on Cracker Island and his last roundabout with prison which made Ace, her old friend, join the band for a while. Murdoc still needs to do a lot before he can finish his cycle, but seeing that he loves turning the world into chaos, Noodle doesn't put her hands on the fire for it.

This is an ABSOLUTE BOP Mark E Smith is dead and from Salford, unapologetically. He made music about his life and where he lived, and performed there until he died, even in a wheelchair. My Dad is from Salford and getting old. He is similarly stubborn about his decreasing capabilities. The album is inspired by the death of Damon and Jamie's fathers. Damon and Mark both share substantial substance use, and a rejection of fame. I think Damon really admires this man, maybe looks up to him almost like a father. Mark fantastically voices a maniacal tyrant here, and this really does feel like a fantastic follow-up to Glitter Freeze. Like closure. Plastic Beach was released at the same time I escaped an abusive situation and started living with my Dad, beginning the rebuilding of our relationship. This song is the one that resonates with me the most, and it's the boppiest on the album! So happy!

This short film feels like spending almost 9 mins holding hands with an old friend you used to play with every single day when you were kids

Gorillaz did what Disney won't do: a proper love letter to 2D animation

Using hand drawn cell animation for this is absolutely amazing. Showing that real human art is more valuable and has soul, rather than AI slop that takes zero effort and steals from other artists. Gorillaz continues to be such an awe inspiring band.
