I really feel for this controller, if you listen to the radio communications, the 737 MAX on the ground declares an emergency and then even with that, there are not even any open gates….he’s juggling an active emergency, finding them a gate, doing ground traffic for a stairway vehicle to be brought over in case they need to evacuate, and a fire vehicle as a precaution, all while doing the routine takeoff and landings for the entire airport. Why would anyone want this job!??

One important part of teleportation is if it cancels out all previous velocity or not. If it doesn’t, you would have to prepare a way to slow your fall before you started ‘flying.’

unfortunately, as youre teleporting, your velocity keeps building up, so the moment you stop teleporting you just splat yourself at speeds greater than terminal velocity

Imagine teleporting into the sky thinking this is how it works, but it turns out you maintain your momentum wherever you teleport so you just start falling and you're essentially forced to stay in the air falling at terminal velocity

Only two air traffic controllers on duty and they are supposed to be capable of handling all this - that is nuts..

2! 2 people having to do all that is all you really need to know

It wasn't one person. It was a few people doing the jobs that should have been 5+ people. 2 staff doing 8 persons jobs.

I feel bad for the families of the victims first, but I also feel bad for the controller. This was so much bigger than just one person's mistake.

The ATC was handling way too many situations at once and he almost immediately corrected his mistake of course too late.

These pilots didn’t have a chance. They only had a few seconds before the fire truck crossed their path. RIP to those pilots and their families.😢🙏

Teleportation is more subtle. Easier to hide. Flight is going to have you ending up as a permanent lab experiment on a government table without anesthesia. Or splashed by an F-22.

I also don’t think the government will like seeing you fly. With teleportation, you can at least be secretive.

All vehicles entering a Taxiway or Runway should have a mandatory transponder and incursion warning system, and if they don't have one, they should be escorted by a local port vehicle that does have those systems.

This pilot had my exact thoughts. When the first emergency happened, the airport should have been SHUTDOWN UNTIL the emergency was RESOLVED. Firetrucks should NEVER cross over LIVE runways, ESPECIALLY at NIGHT with rain or fog. So sad that this tragedy was SO PREVENTABLE. The emergency PROCEDURE was at FAULT more than the Controller or the firetruck driver. (So they shouldn't feel the guilt) "Make common-sense, COMMON again".

After listening to Peta last night, it seems like the U.S. should consider adopting the same runway safety rules used in Europe. There, once a vehicle or aircraft is cleared onto a runway, that runway is immediately closed to all other traffic until it’s fully cleared. That kind of system could help improve safety. ✈️
