This was actually a more salary cap friendly deal than the $37M transition tag because only $14M will count against the salary cap this year which is very reasonable for a starting QB. Also only $10M is guaranteed after 2026.

With the way they structured the contract the Cap hit for Jones contract next season is only $14.6 million....$48 million the second yr which the Colts will extend if next yr works out...Plus Jones contract is spread out over the next 5 yrs with the way the NFL bargaining agreement goes so even if he hits all the incentives which he most likely wont, Irsay-Gordon only out $20 million a yr for the next 5 yrs avg....Most likely, less...

The Colts are paying 2 years of elite QB money for 1 1/2 years AT MAXIMUM of Daniel Jones considering the injury. Not to mention, he may not be the same for a few years after that injury. Not sure about this one.

I think Jones reneged on his deal with the Vikes and left them in the lurch, after they helped rehabilitate him. Now he is playing hard ball with the Colts who gave him a chance, and stuck by him. I'm starting to think that he is difficult to deal with. His play was cratering last season before he was injured too. Johnathon Taylor had to break records to save his butt in Germany vs the Falcons. An Achilles is no bargain. I think the Colts would do well to exercise some caution.

Jones played great last year, I'll admit I was wrong on his play BUT he got hurt AGAIN people talk about AR being injury prone but look at Jones he has 1 healthy season in his whole career....ya Richardson has had some but majority of them were not season ending, a concussion, and a couple games he was pulled for something minor at the end of the game so I don't count those, the shoulder was bad and the eye was a bad freak accident.... The pinky in preseason wouldn't have held him out of a game if he was the starter.... We knew he was a project so why not finish that project and let him grow.... At least keep him and let him start until Jones is 100% and show the league his growth and get a actual good trade if your dead set on letting him go.....

No way the plan was to have both Crosby and Hendrickson. Hendrickson's market value was down and the Ravens thought it was better to grab him and keep their draft picks. The Insiders are self deluded in this case.

Colts did a great job of making sure they have the QB that will get them back to 9-8 and missing the playoffs. Looking forward to the day when Ballard is fired. I'm going to have a huge party to celebrate. Then there will be the 2 year rebuild. So, at this point, I think we're looking at 2029 before the Colts are even sniffing relevance.
