Energy bills may come down but the cost is being shifted to extra tax.

Freezing the tax allowance for a decade is outrageous.

excuse me energy bills down, what a dam lie, same household items used 2 years ago was 5p per hour on smart meter now in 2026 same appliances active and is 19p an hour tell me that you made it cheaper again right SCAMMERS

CORRECTIONS 1) Emergency tax on small pension withdrawals (Zoe) — yes, it can happen. If Zoe takes a one-off withdrawal from a defined contribution pension, the provider may apply emergency tax (often on a Month 1 basis) if HMRC hasn’t issued a correct tax code for that payment. In that situation, Zoe may need to reclaim over-deducted tax via HMRC (either through her Personal Tax Account or the relevant reclaim route). So you’re right: it isn’t always “no forms/no paperwork” in practice. 2) 25% tax-free element — correct to mention. In many cases, up to 25% of a defined contribution pension withdrawal can be tax-free (subject to the usual rules). That means Zoe could potentially withdraw more than £297 without creating a tax charge, depending on her total taxable income and the nature of the withdrawal. The key point is that even if the withdrawal is largely/partly tax-free, the provider can still initially tax it incorrectly under emergency coding — which then requires reclaim/adjustment. 3) Savings interest — Personal Savings Allowance (PSA) matters. You’re right that the £1,000 PSA for basic rate taxpayers can increase the amount of interest that is tax-free. So when explaining “tax-free headroom”, the correct calculation should explicitly include PSA where it applies. (And to be precise for viewers: PSA depends on the taxpayer’s marginal rate — £1,000 basic rate, £500 higher rate, £0 additional rate.) 4) HMRC phone number — correct. Yes: the Income Tax helpline is 0300 200 3300. Disclaimer: This content is for general information only and is not personal financial advice. It is based on current UK tax and pension rules and public guidance for the 2025/26 tax year. Individual circumstances vary and rules can change.

The 2029 salary sacrifice cap won't affect me because I will retire before April 2029, but it will affect my wife, and that concerns me. The freeze on the personal allowance is also a big concern. Council tax isn't frozen though!! Mine is going up by 5% this year - AGAIN! The increase in the state pension age has little to do with increasing longevity, which is highly uneven, but on the desire of the government to spend less on pensions. And don't fool yourself that Tories or Reform UK will change this - if anything, they will be even more keen to reduce spending on pensions.

Very unlikely to pay tax on savings interest if the state pension goes above the personal allowance and that's your only income. You have nearly £5000 of starting rate allowance plus personal tax allowance of £1000. I have £700 per year NHS in addition to state pension so when the state pension goes above the personal allowance it will be taxed above 20% using K tax codes I suspect. Messy situation.

She is off her rocker, living standards are up for them and their 5% pay rise to 95,000 pounds just below their tax threshold , I work bloody hard and can barely afford my rent and council tax.

Please tell me how the £2.80 a week saving on electricity bills is gonna really help me survive better in life really when you up tax on everything else you punish the poor reward the rich I’m full time employee Im sat here with no cash no food or drink no car no heating no support no nothing so yet again lies lies lies

Angie your channel is so full of your amazing knowledge and advice - this is not for me but as an interesting point would love you to do a strategy video for the average retired couple based on: A house paid for value £350k (fairly average) a pot of £150K - 2x State Pensions and a total private pension of £600 paid 4 weekly, I am very aware that one hat does not fit all - so apologies in advance - but I do know a lot of people (friends and family who more or less fit that criteria) Would love your strategy and any advice on inheritance implications - think the majority of Pensioners want to leave as much as possible for their families! Look forward to every single video you do - like most Pensioners we feel totally squeezed by this government's tax regime and personally think they don't value us at all.❤

I recieved my pension letter informing me the pension will rise from £921 to £932 per month from April. I also recieved a tax letter stating I am £139 below the threshold, so, I will be taking out that money before April as you have suggested previously that it will be reset and that money will disappear. Thanks for the 'heads up'.

Every family is going to be 1000 pounds a year better off 😂😂

Totally clear to me Richard. Loved your analogies. I’ve just finished reading Econocracy…a bit dated maybe, but I got the measure of the non-pluralistic teaching of economics. I gather nothing has changed in that sense. I’ll try to phone in to Jeremy Vine today…a bit awkward to fit into my day though. I do hope others are able to.

Thank you for spelling this out (again!) so clearly. It's hard for most of us to accept that our governing classes lie to us, but that is what is happening. We can speculate about their intelligence, their motives, their understanding of economics. But in the end, they are not telling the truth that they must know. Otherwise known as "lying".

Reeves is certainly not a progressive economist. She is more Osborne than Keynes. Austerity is embedded and will always prohibit growth and prosperity. Our economy is captured by financialisation when we need investment in the real economy, including public assets and infrastructure. Finance should work for society; instead of us working for the financial sector. The City is NOT the jewel in the crown: it's a den of gambling and exploitation. Inequality is most harmful to health, welfare, social mobility and prosperity. It influences such factors far more than our total national GDP. The evidence is in The Spirit Level (a well researched publication).
