Detailed explanation of why the Buffy reboot was cancelled and what specific factors led to the decision.
Imagine how bad it must have been if Disney rejected the idea.
Agree on most points. The constant rebooting of old shows "IS" lazy, no doubt about it. What's worse is that the new writers/producers tend to try and elevate their show above the old version in very annoying(political) ways.
They are literally trying to bring back every tv show from the last 20+ years. Which is ridiculous. Can they not come up with anything new?????
Discussion on the creative vision and potential direction of the reboot, including comparisons to the original series and the involvement of key figures like Joss Whedon and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
No Joss Whedon, no Buffy or Firefly. It’s meaningless without him.
I breathed a sigh of relief. No Joss Whedon no Buffy.
I’m saying this as a life-long Buffy fan that was in their teens when it aired and followed Buffy and Angel as they came out through their whole runs (and got into Fray and the continuation comics for both series): I am *so* glad this isn’t happening. SO glad. Without Whedon at the helm (not that that would ever fly with what we know about him now) and none of other original cast, we all know how this would have turned out. It would have tarnished the legacy and pissed on the grave of an entire generation’s childhood, it would have been torn to pieces for our viewing pleasure by Nerdrotic and Drinker, it would have added nothing new or compelling to the universe, and would have crashed and burned out of the gate. And of course nobody would watched it, the production team would have learned nothing and started having little tantrums on Bluesky asking why the Xennials they consciously alienated and the Zoomers with no attachment to the franchise didn’t tune in. This song and dance is getting so old and predictable at this point. It’s really, really encouraging to just see a studio take the L say “yeah, nah.” for once. Maybe all these “creatives” that feel a need to spread their messages might actually start having to do some hard work by building some new franchises and make the effort to get us to care about it if they want us to listen to their message.
Exploration of alternative platforms or methods for continuing the Buffy story, such as other streaming services, animated series, or comic adaptations.
This is so sad. I hope another network will pick it up.
Can't another network pick it up?
I hope someone else pick it up...soon 🙏 🤞
Analysis of the original Buffy series' enduring appeal and what made it successful, particularly in contrast to modern reboots.
No two shows are more of their time than the X-Files and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Buffy was brilliant in its time. Female led without feeling forced, lesbian story without being preachy and boring, they can't seem to do stories like that now and have them feel natural and part of the universe they're creating. These days, it always feels forced and in your face, too on the nose and cliche, they drive the messaging down your throat in a preachy, boring way.
Buffy worked because they didn't learn into the teen angst approach. Yes there was obviously some, but it was balanced with humour, action and some clever character development. Definitely a one hit wonder...
Discussion on the current trend of reboots and remakes in the entertainment industry, using the Buffy reboot as a case study.

No creativity left in the entertainment industry....
Clarification on the specific plot points or lore changes that would have been introduced in the reboot, and how they might have diverged from the original canon.
It wouldn't work to focus on one younger slayer anymore, because Willow had used magic to make all the potentials everywhere slayers at once. So now the slayer generational lore is changed.
There were a series of posts after news broke that Bob was leaving Disney, alluding to the cancellation of Buffy & a number of other "modern audience" projects. Buffy was rumoured to be full of allegory & messaging like "White Christian high school kids bad" & that the misunderstood vampires weren't the true evil... it was the patriarchy or something similar.
Well, my guess is that Buffy 2 was written for "the modern audience". Maybe they have started realising that there are only 150 people worldwide in that group; the rest is social media amplification. For such an audience size, you need to manage a minuscule budget very carefully to avoid (yet again) eye-watering losses.
Information about the pilot episode of the cancelled reboot, such as whether it will be released or if there are any clips available.
Pourquoi cette phrase à la fin ????
I mean, I feel bad for everyone involved. But I must admit, a part of me is also relieved. "Buffy..." still holds up pretty well IMO, the show's still there for new fans to fall in love with (i've watched _many_ do so) so why not just let them ? It had a great run and _nailed_ the landing IMO (on TV at least) so I was never convinced a continuation was worthwhile and not more likely to just tarnish the show's legacy. But hey, if anyone wants to stump up for a _proper_ HD remaster, please, take my money. I guess my big fear now would be, they "salvage it" by moving ahead _without_ SMG. Because for the reasons above i'm _even less_ interested in a "full" remake with an entirely new cast, writers etc. (if they want to do a _new_ show though, "Fray" is _right there_ - still one of my favourite Buffyverse "spin-off" stories and sure, it's now canonically dubious but basically, so what ? It _could_ be made to work in-universe _and_ feels like a quite natural way to introduce a whole new cast _without_ stepping on the toes of the OG show _or_ character. Melaka Fray is one of the few Slayers that can hold a candle to Buffy herself IMO - because no, I _highly_ doubt Eliza Dushku would return - and the dystopian sci-fi ish setting would give the whole thing a fresh feel and ride the coattails of e.g. "Fallout" _and_ y'know, about 1 in 3 YA novels :)
I hope we can at least watch the pilot Or this goes somewhere else I feel bad for Sarah. She just doesn’t have the luck.
Analysis of the role and impact of Sarah Michelle Gellar in the reboot's development and cancellation.
Well…..this is truly disappointing. Sarah consistently produces great work. Even “Ringer” had a strong beginning until it fell off. I was looking forward to this man. I bet Joss is ecstatic tho 😂
While it's sad to hear her disappointment, she sounds really sad, I’m happy. She was great as Buffy, but the show was Joss Whedon. The creative was Joss' team. Sarah was the performer, not the creative. Also .. Buffy without Joss, Xander, Giles, Angel, probably Willow too ... the success of the show was that it was an ensemble. It never felt right to me.

Discussion on the specific creative differences or issues that arose between the creators and the network (Hulu).
I actually heard it wasnt a creative thing, it was the number of episodes Chloe Zhao wanted. I guess Hulu didn't wanna give her 12 episodes and instead wanted to give her 8. I hope they don't take it and make it into something unwatchable now.
The real issue was probably the script. Even the set photos didn’t look promising, and it feels like Sarah Michelle Gellar may have had too much influence over the story without the strongest creative instincts. Meanwhile Hulu already works with writers like Drew Goddard—who wrote on Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 7, created the hit High Potential on ABC, and scripted Project Hail Mary. Seems like they could’ve brought in that level of storytelling much earlier
At 3:18, I don’t think Hulu is actually interested in moving forward with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That message sounds like the kind of thing companies say when they don’t want to hurt people’s feelings and want to leave the door slightly open. It’s a bit like applying for a job and getting the email that says, “Sorry, you didn’t get the position, but we’ll keep your details on file in case something comes up.” In reality, that usually just means no. If Hulu had really wanted to move forward, they probably would have given notes on how to improve the pilot things they didn’t like, changes to the script, or characters they thought needed adjusting. That happens all the time in television. When networks see potential in a show but think the pilot needs work, they often “retool” it rather than abandon it completely. Retooling can include rewriting parts of the script, changing the tone, or even replacing actors after the pilot. For example. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Willow was originally played by Riff Regan in the unaired pilot but was later recast with Alyson Hannigan when the show was picked up. Game of Thrones also reworked its original pilot and replaced Tamzin Merchant with Emilia Clarke as Daenerys. Even The Big Bang Theory changed its female lead after the first pilot and introduced the character Penny, played by Kaley Cuoco. Because of that, if a network truly believes in a project, they usually try to fix the pilot rather than walk away from it completely, so we all know that message is PR spin.
Exploration of the original Buffy series' technical aspects, such as filming for HD or specific actor performances.
12:25 :D you will probably notice a lot of body doubles, this show was not meant for hd
10:23 That is Sophia Crawford. She's in Buffy a lot.
Another fun reaction. I believe the lighting issue is partly due to the age of the show. I heard they used 16mm film which is very low quality compared to todays standards.
