The thing has crazy value. Opens the door to macOS for a lot of people, including me as I preordered it as my first ever mac.

The neo also makes a lot of sense for people who are given laptops from their employers and just want something basic for personal use

I was very close to buying this but decided to get a refurbished m4 air from Apple instead. I just was worried about the 8gb of ram so figured getting the air would better future proof my laptop. I plan on having this for 7 or 8 years min. Hope I made the right call

Nah man that mic and camera for that price is more than decent, it's absolutely insane.

The benchmark against the M chips is a good enough for me. Never thought the A18 pro chips for iphones are that powerful as laptops.

The biggest regret is The battery life not what we expected.

Normally I like your content, but this seems laced with some kind of bias or something. The processor is basically a snappier M1 which for a budget machine is great particularly because of MacOS's massive efficiency advantages over Windows. You know better than to use synthetic benchmarks as a determinator for system performance. Also, the memory while being a bummer that you can only get 8GB is likely going to be plenty for the intended market. Finally, while you can find machines that have similar raw specs or even beat it some, you are not going to find a machine at the same price point with all the performance, a beautiful screen, great speakers, good keyboard, solid trackpad, excellent webcam, and a machined aluminum chassis. Not to mention that this machine will likely absolutely destroy anything in its price range in battery life. This release is an incredibly good value offering from Apple, that with education discounts becomes an absolutely insane offering. $499 for the base model and $599 for the upgraded after the discount is absolutely bonkers. Give Apple some credit for releasing a product with absolutely spectacular value at a time when everything in the space is rising in costs, and stop being intentionally obtuse. It's not a gaming machine. It's a light productivity machine for students, authors, home offices, teachers, etc.
