Precision beats mass. Watching K2 tanks outclass T90s is surreal.

Korea is going to test out their technology and weapons on Russia's military. Smart move because China's weapons and tech is untested.

South Korea makes superb equipment and cheaper, faster than the USA. Some great equipment they produce and can delivery quickly.

South Korea in the game means a huge fucking deal here. I think South Korea's interest is to keep North Korea's overreach at bay. And South Korea wants to join the weapons trade industry in Europe as well, so there are mutual interests at play here. And yes also for protecting democracy. South Korea is welcome.

Russia is giving the West an opportunity to hone the effectiveness of its weapons systems. Getting your weapons tested in actual battle is the best way to find out want needs to be adjusted or reengineered. This for S. Korea is almost a gift from God. They may someday have to go to war against N. Korea, and having had their weapons systems tested in actual battle is priceless.

The F-35 is widely regarded as the world’s premier fifth-generation fighter, with stealth and sensor fusion capabilities that are second to none. F-35 is the sniper. KF-21 is the spearhead. In a theater with limited strategic depth like Korea, tempo is everything. Paired together, they maximize each other’s strengths — enabling sustained air superiority.

Given that the KF-21 has an RCS of one square meter, compared to the F-35's RCS of .00005 square meters, it's got a ways to go in the true 5th generation stealth capabilities...

That’s a good start for South Korea. The future is ahead. Hopefully they can improve and become a bigger player in the military aviation field.

South Korea bears the burden of defending not only North Korea but also China. For the U.S. to succeed in this region, it must support the further growth of the Korean defense industry. Doing so will benefit the national interest of the United States. It would be more beneficial than saving the failing Boeing.

I don't think it has ever meant to "challenge the F-35. It would have been a "compliment" if the S. Korean got the F-35. S. Korean also want to be independent from US arm trade.

Even if it's 4.5 the future blocks will be stealth. The most important is high payload profile and efficient South Korean assembly and quality. None stealth block will be used as amraan 240 truck & Taurus 350Neo as attacker behind the enemy lines by the time it's detected enemy s400 gets hit from 500km.

Lockheed Martin assisted in it's development as part of the technology transfer clause in South Korea's F-35's but Lockheed Martin insisted that batch 1 be nerfed to not compete directly with the F-35. It was nerfed by the phased array radar antenna being smaller and batch 1 not having an internal weapons bay so there is no point in actually trying for stealth. However the internal weapons bay is expected in batch 2 and the zig zag pattern along doors and hatches are expected in batch 3 so comparable stealth is expected in batch 3. No mention of enlarging the radar antenna has been made... Leaving stealth out in batch 1 has nothing to do with lowering costs, it is only because Lockheed Martin did not want competition. Lockheed Martin also assisted Turkey in their KAAN fighter. However, there hasn't been any announcements of any nerfing being required by Lockheed Martin, however the KAAN is at least a year behind the KF-21 so it may have been deemed pointless to limit the KAAN. Some of the countries that had agreed to participate with the KF-21 program and promised to purchase them has switched their promise to purchase over to the KAAN. The KF-21 currently uses the GEvF414g engine which South Korea manufactured under license but South Korea says they are developing their own indigenous jet engine with more thrust. Turkey uses the F110 engine in the KAAN but they also have their own engine in development and announced ground tests of the engine in 2026. It may be that batch 1 of the KF-21 and probably of the KAAN fighter will be with the US ITAS restricted engines but both have promised to transition to their own engines. Note, this is not South Korea's first attempt at their own jet fighter as when they started manufacturing the T-50 trainer, they commissioned the design and manufacture of the South Korean FA-50 light fighter (basically a T-50 with weapons hard points). When South Korea suggested to Canada that not only could Canada buy the submarines, they could also buy their fighters, they were talking about the FA-50 as it is already in production but South Korea also said that Canada could access their entire weapons portfolio which implies that Canada could join the order backlog for when it begins production. Note how South Korea ensures the use of the technology transfer clauses by bidding out for the design and production of their own products whereas Canada's procurement contracts have also always had technology transfer clauses but aside from Canada changing the design of the F-86 Sabre to produce a far more capable and reliable version and modifying the CF-5 (F-5) such that it required shorter less improved runways, Canada has left the use of the technology transfer clauses to Canadian businesses who then used them for the only market available to them, the US, hence Canadian companies became a manufacturer of parts and offering maintenance services to the US military complex due to the lack of Canadian orders once the procurement contracts were filled. What I see of the South Korean and Turkey's fighters procurements are that those countries arrange further contracts to fully utilize the technology transfer clauses of any foreign equipment they purchase. South Korea's KSS-III submarine also follows being licensed to produce the German Type 209 and Type 214 submarines as their KSS-I and KSS-II submarines. Their artillery also follows being licensed for Raytheon artillery. Also, both the South Koreans and the Japanese arrange their military procurement cycle specifically to keep their workers employed so the production is at a fixed rate, both countries producing one submarine a year which means two submarines under production at any one time with a twelve month offset. They adjust the decommission dates of the products in their own fleet when more or less are needed and indeed that was how Poland received their tanks early, they received tanks that were already under production for the Korean army who then just extended the decommission date of their current tanks to adjust for the greater demand. This also reflects why Canada is proposing purchasing for a fleet of twelve submarines, the twelve coming from an Australian Parliamentary report for the Collins class submarine where they surveyed the procurement cycles of Japan and South Korea and concluded that to maintain their skilled workers, they needed at least one submarine under construction at all times hence one submarine every two years and this would stabilize at a fleet of twelve given the expected useful life. However, the Collins class had quality problems and though this did improve over time, the quality never met the Swedish submarines which was what they licensed. My theory is that the skills needed for the first year of production differs from those needed for the se ind year hence the 12 submarine fleet plant still left workers with hiatus of a year after a year of work and being relatively idle during the opposing year, encourages the skilled workers to find steadier employment (of course this needs to be verified by HR records on turnover rates between the Australian, Japanese, and South Koreans). I fear that Canada may be making the same mistakes that prompted Australia to abandon the Collins class for trying to purchase four nuclear submarines from the US. Hopefully, Canadian members of Parliament will not display their utter ignorance of submarine technologies that the Australian members of Parliament did when questioning their military about their submarine procurements. The videos of the Australian Parliament members of Parliament's questions over their submarine procurements can only be called extremely embarassing.

real stealth has its issues : reduced speed, increased 10 fold maintenance, lesser sorties, higher price tag. A well designed 4.5 gen is way better and cost effective (see Grippen or Rafale)

KF-21 says...I am cheap (compared to F-35).buy me
